Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD's)

Chlamydia:
Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that is found in the urethra, cervix, or the upper reproductive organs (or all three) of women. Chlamydia is transmitted by sexual contact and is the most common sexually transmitted disease (STD) in the United States. Three million new cases of chlamydia are discovered each year.  Most women do not have symptoms, so they can pass the disease to their sexual partners.

Genital Herpes:
Genital herpes is a viral infection that causes blisters and sores in the genital area.  Genital herpes is often caused by sexual contact with someone with herpes blisters or sores present, however many people with genital herpes have no outward symptoms.

Gonorrhea:
Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection of the urethra, cervix, or both in women. Gonorrhea is transmitted by sexual contact, and is the second most reported STD in the United States.

Our STD page covers some sexually transmitted diseases.  Having a sexually transmitted disease is not something that you should feel embarrassed about.  If you suspect that you have an STD, it is imperative that you discuss your concerns with one of our doctors.  Untreated STD's can cause you discomfort or pain.  Some STD's may not show many outward symptoms, but can cause internal problems or infertility.  Below we have provided a brief overview of some of the more prevalent diseases.  We encourage you to click on the links to get more information.

We will continue adding to this section, so check back often. If there is a topic that we have not covered, please let us know by filling out our "Feedback Form."

We highly recommend WebMD as an excellent source of information.
