Zweibach Women's Health is dedicated to providing services that will improve the health and well-being of our patients. Patient feedback has indicated that Labiaplasty is a welcome addition to our list of specialties.
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure performed on women who dislike the large size of their labia minora. Generally, the labia minora are only visible when a woman’s legs are open. In some women, their large labia minora are visible when the legs are closed, or only slightly separated. This can cause self-consciousness or embarrassment. The enlarged labia can also cause uncomfortable chafing while walking, during exercise, while wearing tight clothing, or during sexual intercourse.
Enlarged labia are often congenital, but other factors such as age, childbirth, or physical injury can also contribute to this condition. Labiaplasty sculptures the elongated or unequal labia minora (the small inner lips that cover the vaginal opening), creating a streamlined appearance.
The labiaplasty procedure is relatively minor, and not too uncomfortable. The procedure itself takes approximately 2 hours. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia at a local surgery center. You can return home the day of your surgery, and dependant upon the nature of your work, you may be able to return to work within 5 days.
Recovery is usually 6-8 weeks. Sexual intercourse and exercise are disallowed until your follow-up visit and medical clearance by your surgeon.
The procedure may be covered by your insurance, particularly if you have any discomfort that necessitates the procedure. We encourage you to contact our insurance department if you have any questions about the availability of coverage for this procedure from your insurance carrier.
If you have concerns about the size of your labia, or have further questions, please contact our office.
