Zweibach Women's Health wishes to inform our patients, and the general public of the CDC's guidelines regarding the 2006 flu season: “Because of the increased risk for influenza-related complications, women who will be pregnant during the influenza season should be vaccinated.”
Women who will be pregnant during the 2006-2007 flu season are advised to receive the flu vaccine. The CDC states that pregnant women should receive the inactivated influenza vaccine, NOT the live-virus vaccine. Pregnant women can be vaccinated with the inactivated influenza vaccine during any trimester of their pregnancy.
According to the CDC, the following groups are urged to get the flu shot:
Although the vaccine carries a few risks and side effects, it’s better to have it than to go without. The vaccine prevents the flu in about 70 to 90 percent of healthy people under the age of 65.
