Zweibach Women's Health is pleased to announce an invaluable service for our obstetrical patients! We have arranged Doula services through Wendy Hoffmeister a certified Doula.
What is a Doula? The term “Doula” comes from the ancient Greeks who selected a special handmaiden to attend the lady of the house during childbirth. The modern day doula is a woman who is experienced in childbirth and provides continual physical, emotional, and medical advocacy support before during and after childbirth.
Research shows that women who use a Doula's services during their childbirth have:
• 25% reduction in length of labor
• 40% reduction in the use of drugs to induce labor
• 40% reduction in forceps delivery
• 50% reduction in the need for a cesarean section
• 60% reduction in the request for epidural anesthesia
• 40% reduction in oxytocin (pitocin) use
• 30% reduction in analgesia use
• Greater satisfaction in their birth experience
