Our Doula

What is a Doula?  In ancient Greece, the female servant who helped the lady of the house give birth during childbirth was called a doula. Today a Doula is a woman experienced in childbirth who provides physical and emotional support to a mother before, during and after childbirth.

A doula can be your sole partner if you don't have one, or she can help you and your partner during this wonderful but potentially stressful time.

As an emotional support, she will offer constant encouragement and reassurance to the mother and her partner.  She will provide information about the birth process, will provide coping skills, and will help ensure that your desires for childbirth are carried out.  A doula will protect your birth experience, and will help relieve some of the stress involved so your birthing experience can be as wonderful as possible.

When you choose Wendy as your Doula, she will be your support from about the 7th month of your pregnancy, through your labor and birth, and during your postpartum period.

During your pregnancy, she will be available to answer questions, help you understand the changes that your body is going through, and help you decide if any symptoms or problems that you are experiencing requires assistance from the doctors.

When you begin your labor, Wendy will be available via telephone, and in person when you feel that you need her.  She will provide comfort tools and coping techniques to assist you through your labor.

After you give birth, Wendy will be there to help you in your initial experiences with your newborn.  She will be there to help with latch on technique if you are breastfeeding, she will answer any lingering questions you may have and help you make the transition to "Mommy" whether for the first time or the fourteenth!

DONA, the Doula's of North America organization, certifies Wendy.  If you have any more questions about Doulas, we encourage you to check out their web site.  If you have any other questions, you can reach Wendy through Zweibach Women's Health at 813.571.2777.

When considering our Doula service, you should check with your insurance company to verify that Doula services are covered.  As a courtesy to our patients, we will bill your insurance company for Doula services.  At this time we are unable to guarantee insurance reimbursement.  Payment arrangements can be made.
